Unfortunately, working life doesn't always run smoothly. Stress, being overwhelmed, bullying, and tasks you dislike undermine your well-being. Very often, work even makes you downright sick, leading to mental illness, depression, or burnout. The factors involved are many.

Work Makes You Sick - The Wrong Calling?

A great many people settle for a job they basically don't want to do at all. This often happens because of a lack of training or insufficient qualifications. To get by anyway, they accept poorly paid positions, helper jobs, and part-time employment. Often this also comes with heavy physical labor, unfavorable working hours, and terrible coworkers. So as not to attract unnecessary attention and end up in a special role, the job gets done. Even under inner tension, right up to illness.

Work Makes You Sick - Bullying

It's still a central issue, and not only at school. At the workplace, too, employees often become victims of verbal and, less often, physical attacks. They're bullied for all sorts of reasons, end up in a special role, and feel anything but joy in their daily work. Much more fear and aversion, which in very severe cases can turn into deep depression. Out of shame and fear, people often stay silent and don't even tell nice coworkers or the boss. It's a process in which, in the end, it's only about getting through each individual workday as best you can.

However, every employee is advised to seek help in cases of obvious bullying. It's not a permanent condition and shouldn't be accepted without a fight. In such a case, the culprits must be held accountable, warned, or even fired. Because bullying is a socially unforgivable thing! For whatever reasons...

Anyone who frequently does heavy physical work can also get sick this way, either very quickly or over the long term. Joints wear out, muscles are overworked, and the back is affected in the long run as well. Even a very strong person can't break their back their whole life. After all, we're only human and not machines. For people who regularly have to do heavy physical work, regular breaks or additional physical therapy are an important guideline.

But even the "coveted jobs" like doctor or lawyer demand their price. Lots of overtime, quick decisions, lots of data to keep in your head, and often too little sleep wear you out in this work. And money isn't everything, after all. Everyone also needs the breaks they're entitled to, in which to recover and gain new energy. You shouldn't be plagued by guilt about this either. Everyone has the right to a time-out when work gets too stressful!
